SO FAR

Ian Schaid moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the fall of 2014 from Long Beach, California to enroll at Berklee College of Music. As an avid musician in high school he went through an exploration period early on as a guitarist in rock bands to quickly change to playing crossover jazz. Ian’s gigging life of jazz music with his sextet inspired him to create arrangements and eventually the discovery of his own compositional sound. His music was met with a large audience for the first time when playing with his sextet at The Gardenia Jazz Festival 2014.

Since starting at Berklee, Ian is consistently developing his musical voice through different channels of composition. In scoring his first short films Genui in December of 2016 followed by Just Us in April 2017, he was well received by the audience and teachers of Directing at Emerson College when premiered at the Paramount Theatre in Boston. He has continued working with directors from Emerson and expanding to work with other student directors at Massachusetts School of Art and Design.

Along a different line of film he has also become a skilled commercial writer consisting of product lines, movie trailers, and writing songs for commercials.

Ian is also actively playing with bands in the local Boston and Long Beach music circuit. In studying abroad in Valencia, Spain he became an official member of The Interlopers as a funk/R&B/rock group that has now toured parts of Europe and the North East. They released the debut single, Elevation in November of 2016. The single was featured in Best of Boston Music: 30 Top Songs of 2016Through the study abroad program he has also joined Jacksonville Kid, an Americana Folk revival with nuances of an indie rock band who released their first single in mid March of 2017 and have already recorded an EP to follow with plans to release in the summer. Ian also continues to play his contemporary jazz compositions with his group ENwhich has fluctuating members at all times and is a constant arranging process.

Through playing live and writing in different mediums Ian has worked with people across the United States and in Europe. He is currently residing in Boston however is eagerly planing to move to the greater Los Angeles area to create, collaborate, and overall bring new ideas to the table. He is ambitious in creating more art for the world sonically and to inspire individuality through his own.
